Dear Hearts,

Wanting to do a post Valentine’s Day “check-in” with you! I was recently accepted as a writer for Huffington Post. My first article was titled “ 3 Practical Valentine’s Tips for Attracting or Enhancing Love” (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/luann-robinson-hull/love-advice_b_2641372.html).

The following excerpt is step 1: Find a Way To Love Yourself.

You can read and post your comments to the complete article using the above link, or comment on this post.  Stay tuned next week for more tips.

Find a way to love yourself. I realize the whole idea of “self-love” has been “woo wooed” to death. Nonetheless, it is the single most important factor for you to figure out how to do. And while you are in the discovery process, please note what true self-love is not: narcissism. What, then, is it? Well, I have written an entire book on the subject and I am still learning myself. Please join me. If we get this one right, we are home free. Whatever comes your way, you can deal. Why? Because you’ve got your own back. And you absolutely know that as long as you are drawing breath, your back is not going to leave you. In loving yourself and therefore taking responsibility for yourself and your feelings, realize when you are hurting that it is up to you to communicate what is going on. And if you really want to be heard, don’t start off by listing your grievances. Just simply say how you felt. Here is an example: “When it seemed like you were flirting with my best friend, I felt threatened, afraid and abandoned.” Now then, you have to have the self-love part at least launched to be safe enough in your own skin to make such a statement. (Time to get cranking.)

If you’d like to engage about this topic live and in person, please feel free to phone in to the radio show “The Best People We Know” this Tuesday at 8AM PT, 9AM MT, 10AM Central & 11 AM ET (I’ll be a guest) and ask me anything you’d like about “Finding Happily Ever After Right Now.” Here is that link: http://bit.ly/YlnvkF

If you aren’t able to join me on Tuesday, rest easy and realize that, “If you could only love enough, you would be the happiest and most powerful being in the universe”—Emmet Fox. Start by loving you, and be happy…right now.

Believe in yourself!

Love,

Luann

  1. I agree that to be loved we must first love ourselves. It’s a simple truth, oftentimes difficult to accept.

  2. Excellent advice, Luann. We have a tendency to let things fester where then they do become a list of grievances.

  3. This concept is so important it fits in with truly knowing yourself.

  4. Luann – I was reminded of this just today, when I was virtually cursing myself, and it was my beau who said, “be nice to yourself”…. it is so true. We are simply too hard on ourselves. Thanks for the encouragement. XO
